WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
SUMMARY SUSPENSIONS

The regulatory board may learn about possible misconduct by a licensee or registrant by way of a complaint or sometimes through a media article.
  • At what point should the board temporarily remove the practice privilege pending more thorough investigation?
  • Does your board have guidelines for imposing a temporary or summary suspension?  Or are circumstances so individualized that they are difficult to place into guidelines?
  • Should there be other interim options, such as practice monitors or restrictions while still enabling the chiropractor to practice? Or is the potential danger to the public sufficient to warrant “time out”?
  • How much information should be available on the board’s public website?
  • How does the board balance the public interest against the probable impact on a doctor’s practice?
  • How do the agency’s resources enter into these decisions?

Local lawmakers propose more protections for sexual assault victims of doctors
https://www.dispatch.com/news/20190618/local-lawmakers-propose-more-protections-for-sexual-assault-victims-of-doctors

A group of Franklin County lawmakers wants to increase protections for sexual assault victims in Ohio.
…
The legislation comes in wake of the conviction of Ryan Smith, a former Clintonville chiropractor. Smith faced allegations of sexual assault from 43 of his former patients. The statute of limitations had run out on several of the accusations, so he faced charges relating to 22 of the women, ranging between 14 and 74 years old. Smith pleaded no contest in January to 66 counts of sexual imposition and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, to be served over 60 consecutive weekends, plus five years of probation.

October 25, 2019
https://www.gcc-uk.org/news/entry/amendment-to-the-code-b3

At its September meeting, the Council approved an amendment to the Code. This follows a consultation period.
The purpose of amending the Code is to provide greater clarity for Registrants by referencing the ASA and relevant guidance as a result of the advertising cases.

The amendment is made at B3 and is as follows:
You must:
ensure your advertising is legal, decent, honest and truthful as defined by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and conforms to their current guidance, such as the CAP Code
