2013 Meeting Notes
The focus of the 2013 meeting in Durban, South Africa, was on addressing competencies.
It was not a full Forum in the tradition of past meetings.
The next meeting of the ICRC will be in conjunction with the FCLB’s 88th Annual Congress in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA, April 30 – May 4, 2014. The primary Project Groups will once again be the focus of the meeting, with progress reports from each.
It was not a full Forum in the tradition of past meetings.
- The group wants to move beyond being a Forum to having a loose sense of organization, at least sufficient to begin to issue position statements
on issues relevant to the protection of the public and to facilitating mobility by qualified practitioners. Hence the name change from
International Chiropractic Regulatory Forum (ICRF) to International Chiropractic Regulatory Collaboration (ICRC).
- Draft Statement on Competency: This statement is seen as the basis for discussions about competency and mobility. Of key importance is that past competency discussions have focused solely on clinical competence. The group determined that additional social and professional
competencies are also necessary. This observation has the potential to have tremendous impact on future education and testing. This will be circulated among stakeholders over the next year to gather comments and suggestions.
- Proposed statements have been requested addressing patient privacy and practitioner conduct in other jurisdictions, particularly addressing educational programs in unregulated parts of the world.
- CCEI is taking on the mapping of accreditation standards and competencies, with a project delivery date of 2015. The ICRC will offer support with the literature review portion of the final document to be presented. Initial outcomes appear to substantiate the conclusion that educational programs are much more similar than they are different.
